Inovação que está fazendo a cabeça de todo o mundo.

Landlord Real Estate Tycoon achieves over one million downloads off of organic growth

The Challenge

Landlord Real Estate Tycoon was launched by Reality Games in January 2015. The game was offered as a freemium app, where you require in app purchases for further game play abilities. Many games do it but very few games succeed from this model. What was it that allowed the game to make money?

Landlord is in essence, a property trading game allowing you to purchase real estate from a selection of 50 million objects worldwide. Challenge other global players and manage property and buildings in New York City, London, Tokyo, or even own a coffee shop in your local neighborhood if you wish.

“The way we were able to get gamers to get hooked is by allowing them to buy properties around the place they lived or visited. Because the players were able to own some pretty famous properties, it made it fun for them. Then, they would invest more time into building their empire. And as their empire value increased to millions they become more invested in the game. However, there are some limitations from the free abilities given. As a result, to keep it going, the player have to spend money”, Paul Chen, the Tech Evangelist says.

The Solution

Landlord Real Estate Tycoon resides in the popular social game genre. It is a game where it all rests on interactions between players as they buy and sell properties from the bank and each other. The activities of the game also rests on the real world social media interactions between visitors of a place and their checking into that place on Facebook or Foursquare.

The game was created by just a few developers in London, England. Ever since the end of 2015, it has consistently remained in the tops ranks in over 10 countries includes the United States as reported by App Annie.

Reality Games is a up and coming gaming studio who develops games based on the idea of gamifying big data. There are terabytes of data being created hourly by social media, sensors, traditional media, financial institutions, and etc. These bits of data can be utilized in many different ways to create value. So Reality Games has found a way to use those data bits as content in mobile games.

“We believe that when players would be more easily engaged when they are dealing with something they understand from the get go, their lives.” says Peter Sas, Head of Business Development at Reality Games

He continues,”What is revolutionary is the fact that we are using real life big data as the background content for the game. Not many people on the games market is doing that. Most of them are spending lots of time and money creating their own content, while we have ready made material for us to use.”

By using easy to understand background story and easy to play early stages, they believe that this would be the right combination to get more players, make them stay for more, and most importantly, spend more money.

The Results

Since the launch in the January of 2015, Landlord has accumulated over one million downloads from both App Store and Google Play. This is based on almost zero spending on marketing and advertising.

They have received over 4.3 rating out of 5.0 from over twelve thousand reviews in the app stores.

Landlord Real Estate Tycoon was recently awarded the People’s Choice Award from Game Connection America 2016 in San Francisco. The game has remained in the top rankings in gaming in some major markets.
